Love animals

whether you are an animal lover or not, i'm not here to shove my opinions down your throats... but really guys, i would prefer one to take a neutral stand towards animals rather than mistreat them.

of course, certain 'inhumane' acts performed on animals may be considered inevitable as they are for the welfare of other animals/ society as a whole. and people may take the stance that they'd rather lose one life (or a few), than many-- thousands, millions. but what puzzles me also, is how there ARE actually safe food and products available out there which does not involve animal testing! so why should there be any in the first place?

i've read so many, many horrible stories on animals being abused in the most cruel ways possible. humans often say that animals like sharks and grizzly bears are dangerous. really? then what about us? chopping the paws off bears for medicine, skinning animals all in the name of fashion?

and the douchebags who purchase pets and then abandon them? what do you gain from doing all these? getting a pet is a lifetime commitment, and you need to be SURE that you're ready and have sufficient cash to give your pet a good life, by bringing them for their annual vaccinations, feeding them, and LOVING THEM by spending time with them. don't get them just because you want to impress people who DON'T CARE.

Recent studies have even concluded that animals do have feelings and emotions. they're not just plushies that have cotton wool stuffed up their assholes. before i got my pet dog, i didn't know that dogs, or animals for that matter, DREAM. bingo would be wagging his tail in his sleep or his paws will be twitching-- as if he's running happily in his dreams. :)

wellllll okay, so after all the above, you can do your part by being a responsible pet owner, if you're currently taking care of a pet. and, if you are planning on buying a pet, please PLEASE, make sure you can commit! do your part by using products that do not involve animal testing! you can easily google the brands that do not support animal testing.

my 'best friend' necklace that my best friend, suhaila got me! she's so sweet and i miss her so, so much :(

my week has been awesome so far. spent most of my time with my family and my friends, which i absolutely love!!!! last saturday, i went over to my dad's office (with my mum and bingo) and i had so much fun, plus, i received alot of red packets from his colleagues, TEEHEE. thank you Jesus!!! honestly a year of unceasing fruitfulness and favour!

after which, i went to chen's house. i really love chen and my secondary school mates SO MUCH!!! they really bring so much joy into my life. we've been friends for 6 years and counting! even though right now, we're all separated into different instituitions, we still make an effort to meet up on special occasions each year and it really pleases me. i love this group of people so much, and i can't EVENNNNN!!!!!! i can't imagine not having them in my life.

i met lixin after that and went for a job interview with her at sap donuts, initially i was really excited about working, however, when i went for the interview, the man was asking me to work as many hours as possible and stuff like that, and do closing... honestly, i don't mind, but when he suggested i work on weekends too i was likeeeeee

as long as it doesn't clash with church, i'm fine. plus, i really felt that he wouldn't hire me because i've got less credentials than lixin, because i've only had one job before. and he even asked, "IS IT OKAY IF I ONLY HIRE ONE OF YOU?" and i was like T_T "sure...".

then while we were leaving, i thought about the long working hours and working on weekends and i was like...

no way do i want this job anymore because i want my family time and i still want to go to church!

but obviously, a part of me still wants this job, because i want to work, and give my parents money, even though they're both working haha, just like how grown- ups provide for their parents~
so yeaaa i was really upset because i felt i really didn't have even the SLIGHTEST chance of getting this job because i can't work long hours, and that's what the boss wants. but GUESS WHAT,

HE CALLED TODAY!!! and said both lixin and i got the job, and on TOP OF THAT, we can work shifts (which means, lesser working hours), and we don't have to work everyday-- meaning, my weekends can be kept for my family, and church. wow, i really really thank God for his favour!!!

yesterday, i went to kangzhi's house to bai nian (chinese new year visiting) with a few of my other friends from 1030! before that, i already had an outfit in mind, but when i put it on, the skirt was SO SHORT, and i was panicking, because i can't wear a short skirt!!!! that'd be just disrespectful, and slutty. so the point of this is, girls, don't choose your outfit in your head, WEAR IT. because often, the outcome isn't what we expect!!!!

back to the topic, i had SO MUCH FUN AT KANGZHI'S!!!!! enjoyed myself to the fullest. his family was so generous! they provided dinner for us and they were so, so hospitable! and what's chinese new year without gambling?

i played mahjong! and won ($4.60) thanks to Lynette who helped me! and we played blackjack, and IN BETWEEN. oh gosh, 'in between' was the most EXCITING GAME EVER. we had so much money in the pot-- $70 ++. in the end, we split the cash equally among all of us.

we left kangzhi's place at around 10+ pm, and the walk back was so awesome because there were so many stars above us! stars, or satellites, who cares!!!! THEY ALL SHINE.

i thoroughly enjoyed myself and i love 1030!

on another note, today is coco's birthday! so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COCO! although i doubt she'll read this because no one comes here anymore, but wow, we've been friends ever since we were 13-- that's 6 YEARS. she is a friend that i never want to lose because she stood up for me SO MANY TIMES, and she has done so many sweet things! she is really such a dear!! LOVE YOU COCO!! <3

a lot of things have been going through my mind lately- my A level results which will be coming up in a months' time (and this makes me lose sleep, ALL THE TIME, because honestly, i feel i haven't performed my best... Jesus you take these feelings away!!!!!), my driving lessons, my trip to Batam to help the needy, my BTT, which job interview/ job i should take? have been considering many jobs lately-- one which my friend has introduced me, and it sounds good! however, the job is currently unavailable; i really am interested in it though :( and another job offer, but it sounds stressful. but i don't mind because i can gain more exposure? i have even more jobs in mind actually, one of which is working in the zoo. always wanted to do that! anyway thank you Jesus for whatever you'll show me which job i should take... because i really need to consider it carefully- i want to get my driver's license asap! which means i'd slot driving lessons in my weekdays and stuff to get it over and done with!

on another note, i always feel very incompetent and this gets to me. like when someone offers me a job, i tend to FEEL like turning it down because i feel like i won't be able to do it, and that i won't be able to live up to that person's expectations. NEED. TO. CHANGE. MY. MINDSET.

i also tried doing galaxy nails for the first time! they don't look nice to me, they just look like random colourful splats and stuff, but i still like them! lol

Bingo, my 8 year old shih tzu!

so recently, i've developed a fetish for socks. like, when i go shopping, i'm only fixated on the socks section and it's so scary! in one day, i bought 13 socks. i know, i know, i only have 2 feet!!!! but they're so pretty!!! and comfy... and they keep my feet safe from blisters... and they kind of smell nice, like a fluffy cow.

as today's the eve of Chinese new year, i went to my paternal uncle's place for a reunion dinner with all my paternal relatives. almost everyone tweets about how their nosy relatives always take this chance to poke into their affairs... "got boyfriend anot?", "what are you planning to do?" etc, but THANKFULLY, my relatives are nothing like that! haha, the questions they ask are just what my plans are when i go to uni (amen!!) and stuff, but they never pry into my personal life, so that's cool!!

when i was younger, i really disliked reunion dinners because all my paternal (cousins) are males!!! and it leaves me super awkward, being the only female. i used to play with my barbies, while they get caught up with... i don't know, yugi-oh? when i was alot younger, but it's different now! i'm beginning to interact more with them, because i only meet them once a year! and my family really means alot to me. for all the support and faith that they have in me, i really appreciate it alot and the least i can do is.. you know, show my appreciation by communicating with them, smiling and stuff.. haha

alright, so tomorrow's Chinese New Year and i'm so excited! really gonna take this time to bond with my family members and catch up with my friends. thank you Jesus for this wonderful day!

Last night, i met my classmates from my JC! it was a get- together before the guys go BOTAK, because most of them are going to enlist into the army soon! so we headed to Timbre at Clarke Quay, and it was my first time there!

here're my opinions on Timbre :) : i thought it was a really nice place! for a restaurant and a bar. there was also live music that night when we went, which was a Friday. plus, the ambience was perfect! with the Singapore river right infront of it, and the pretty city lights and the skyscrapers... i've never lived in the pre world war + post world war era so i honestly can't imagine singapore river being all smelly with poo and pee, singapore has grown so much!!!!! back to the topic, we ordered potato wedges, duck pizza, smoked salmon pizza, and some cajun chicken pizza. i'd say the food is nice! however, the service there is super slow~ we asked multiple times for the menu/ for someone to take our order, and the waiter would say "okok give me a minute" and well, that minute never came. LOL.

i apologise for not having any pics to show you the food we ordered, BUT... if you ever plan on going there, do get the potato wedges! i think it's really nice, it has a crispy outside, and a fluffy inside, and comes with a sauce that tastes like a mixture of honey and some other stuff, but the sauce is not that sweet!! i loved the smoked salmon pizza the best! the cajun chicken pizza was pretty good, however, their servings of the chicken were really little, so some parts of the pizza had chicken, while others just had... well tomato and cheese! but the food is still good! i don't eat duck (because they're such cute animals! and their meat taste weird too), so i can't give you any comments on the pizza, HOWEVER!!! the sauce that goes on the duck pizza is really nice! (it is the sauce similar to the asian dish where you take this thingy like a popiah skin and put cucumber plus duck skin into it and you know... there's a sauce that comes with it? yes that sauce!)

in addition, the live music is really, really good too! but i think the bands only perform on certain days. you can even send in your own song dedication and the band will do their best to perform it for you.

and it was also Zhiling's bday yesterday! overall, i had a really good time with my class. i really like 1030 alot! although sometimes our outings don't go as well as planned because we're still not that close yet, it gets abit awkward! but i hope in time to come, we'll have more outings :)

i took this picture on the 10th of december, the day of the lunar eclipse. i am no photographer so i apologise for this poorly taken picture.. but i love the galaxy and how amazing it all is. just a few weeks back i borrowed a book titled, "the Universe". the whole universe is a masterpiece. how did everything come about? The Big Bang Theory. if not for that, we wouldn't be here. the life that we have here on earth, civilisation and all, is a result of the big bang theory. and because of this, people also say that we, humans are made of stardust~ it's so amazing when you think about that. how a million stars are 'born' every few seconds? how pluto WAS considered a planet, but as of 2006, was kicked off the list of planets in the universe, poor baby :( how we think the earth is so big... but it really is just a teenyweenyteeeeeeny dot, compared to the whole universe. like... a single ant on the land of China.

my interest in astronomy kicked in when i was in Israel, in the Judean Desert, in 2009. my church mates and i walked all the way out into the darkness, away from the huge tents that we were staying in for the night, and laid down under the stars, singing praises to Jesus. it was the most beautiful sight I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!! like a huge black, velvet blanket was raised above us, and there were millions and millions of twinkling stars, some outshined the others, but they were beautiful all the same. i saw 2 shooting stars that night. i want to be an astronomer, although it is highly unlikely here. but it's okay, i can be a self- taught astronomer.

At east coast park!

loved this route especially~ it was so quiet and peaceful.

the aftermath: horribly aching thighs-- couldn't even walk to the toilet! but anyway i'm alot better today!!!! had to stick all these tiger balm stickers to ease the ache!

yesterday was awesome. i went to east coast park with my jc classmates, lily, wh and jack! i had SO much fun! i used to be really sporty when i was younger (likeee.... when i was 8,9?? lol) but stopped living a healthy lifestyle ever since laziness and ignorance kicked in when i reached the rebellious teen age~ mehh. so yesterday was a huge accomplishment for me! we rented our bicycles and cycled from east coast park, all the way to changi village and back. that's 40++ km in total. the trees, in all shades of green, encaved above us as we cycled through the canopy. it felt like i was in a foreign country; so peaceful! away from civilisation~ the freaky spiders and the cacoons hanging by invisible threads... it was so hilarious, watching wh and jack get all pissed as they cycled right into those cacoons! and i love hearing the airplanes take off like every few minutes! i can never stop thinking of korean dramas when i hear the thundering sounds of the airplanes as they lift. the cliche scene where the guy confesses to the girl, and ohhh simultaneously, an airplane takes off and the girl won't be able to hear the guy's confession and blahblah.

overall, it was a great day! i love my mates.! and thank you Jesus for such a beautiful day, because the weather has been sooo terrible lately, with the scorching sun and all. so thank God!

Today I went back to my church's youth service-- after 1.5 years. It felt so good and it felt so right. Nothing beats being in the house of God. And despite so many factors that prevented me from going to youth service, I'm back here again. I grew up in my church, and my church (New Creation Church) has taught me so many things and have contributed so much into shaping me into who I am today. If not for God, the church, my family and the friends God has provided me with, I would honestly be a huge mess right now.

hello to everyone who's chanced upon this blog! i've had 12feetunderthestars as my blog for about 3 years now, but i deleted my previous blog posts because reading them made me grimace at how childish i was in the past. i started blogging since i was 8, and stopped in 2010 because of school; all the commitments and such would just increase the propensity of me publishing slapdash blog entries... which is just bluuuuuehghsaheury

and so... yes! it's 2012 now. i'm so excited to see whatever Jesus has in store for me this year. i know it'll be good, come what may! and contrary to the Mayans' beliefs (no hard feelings)... i do not think that the world is going to end this year because i've (and so many other people) yet to get married and have kids, and travel the world!
